Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, two specimens were originally in her father’s collection. The size of 4 pouces 2 lignes (= 11 cm) matches the size of specimen 1098 / 17; Kiener’s figure does not match this specimen. Current taxonomic position: Neptunea despecta (Linnaeus, 1758); placed in Neptunea [Buccinidae] by Sars (1878): 267. Locality is northern seas. Lamarck (1822) recognized the priority of Linnaeus’ name.
