Data Use Club

The Data Use Club is a space that promotes the interaction between data users and provides them with tools for developing skills in data use, no matter where they are in the world. In the club, we provide support in the following form:
Training seminars: This quarterly webinar series highlights approaches to global problems using GBIF-mediated data. Each seminar provides opportunities for knowledge exchange and inspiration for GBIF users who wish to develop their own solutions to similar challenges.
Practical sessions: This quarterly webinar series focuses on developing the informatic and data management skills necessary to fully exploit the potential of GBIF-mediated data. The material for these sessions expands on the biodiversity data use curriculum developed by GBIF.
DataCamp online training: GBIF users can receive free access to the full suite of online training offered by DataCamp through DataCamp Donates.
For questions regarding the Data Use Club, please contact datause@gbif.org.
Sessions are held in English.

DataCamp licences
GBIF has partnered with DataCamp Donates to offer GBIF users free licences to improve their data literacy skills for undertaking research or projects related to biodiversity, environment or health.
DataCamp provides more than 500 online courses in topics like Python, R and SQL with the aim of increasing data literacy. Through this partnership, GBIF offers a limited number of licenses that give users access to the full range of DataCamp’s training materials.
We accept applications for team licences from GBIF Participant nodes. Please watch the SiB Colombia video for ideas on running a node-based version of this programme.
We also welcome applications from individuals from countries where the GDP per capita is less than US$13,500 (see 2020 GDP per capita data by country (source: World Bank)). We will connect licence awardees with members of a GBIF Participant node or a regional support team to support and follow their training progress.
Given the limited number of licences available, GBIF reserves the right to revoke licences from recipients who do not start using them or have not used them for a period of three months, so that they can be reissued to other users.
Note: DataCamp is unable to issue licences to applicants from the following countries regardless of income: Belarus, Cuba, Islamic Republic of Iran, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, or Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
