Abstract
Centracanthus cirrus, also known as the curled picarel, is a species of picarel native to the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It has been found at depths down to 1000 m.Artüz, M.L. & Kubanç, N. (2015): First record and new depth range extension of the curled Picarel, Centracanthus cirrus (Sparidae) from the Sea of Marmara, Turkey. Cybium, 38 (1): 71-72. This species grows to a length of 34 cm TL though usually not exceeding 12 cm. This species is of minor importance to local commercial fisheries. This species is the only known member of its genus.
