Paracoccus Ezzat & McConnell
Paracoccus Ezzat & McConnell
Paracoccus Ezzat & McConnell, 1956: 37. Type species: Pseudococcus burnerae Brain by original designation.
The genus Paracoccus is generally included in the tribe Planococcini, diagnosed by the presence of sclerotised anal lobe bars. Paracoccus is almost certainly paraphyletic but, as presently understood, has a wide distribution in temperate and tropical regions of the world and now includes about 80 species (Williams, 2004). Here we describe another species in this genus which is somewhat unusual in possessing enlarged dorsal setae. This suggests some similarity to Nipaecoccus Šulc but we think it fits better into Paracoccus.
