Knowledge Dissemination Workshop

This workshop was organized by the Ghana Node (GhaBIF) of the Blobal Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) with funding from the GBIF/BID programme. It was held in connection with the BID project Capacity enhancement for the Ghana node of GBIF.

Participants were trained to digitize data from field, herbarium and museum records. They learned about the various types of data, data cleaning, data management principles and tools and finally the process of publishing data on the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) of GBIF. The workshop had practical sessions to ensure the participants has a grasp of the content. The intention was for the participants to use the new skills acquired and to form a team to mobilize data held in their respective institutions and make them available for all to access on the return to their various institutions.

15 participants attened the workshop coming from 12 different biodiversity data-holding insitutions in Ghana, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations and academia. Some of the institutions that attended were partners to GhaBIF as signatories of the memorandum of understanding to share biodiversity data they already hold.
