Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Metadata Workshop

This event is held as a part of a BID project, Advancing Jamaican biodiversity data products and information services (BID-CA2016-0001-NAC).

This workshop will provide participants with basic GIS concepts and principles for use in biodiversity, natural resource management and decision making. Participants will develop a working knowledge of the main functionalities of a GIS desktop. Practical GIS skills will be developed to add, symbolize, label and manipulate geospatial data, in addition to performing basic spatial queries, and producing high quality maps. Further practical skill will be developed to convert Excel sheets, comparing geographic coordinates to spatial data layers, in addition to the creations of geodatabase and feature classes and maintenance of metadata for spatial data.
