Description
The SDSM&T Museum of Geology was founded in 1885 and holds an estimated 350,000 paleontology specimens, representing paleobotanical, vertebrate and invertebrate specimens. Collections strengths include holdings of Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway fauna, White River Badlands vertebrates, and materials from the Fossil Cycad Management Site. This is a major regional repository for Federal, tribal, and state-owned fossils and their associated data. The Museum also has comparative collections of vertebrate skin and skeletal preparations, freshwater and marine invertebrate material (both dry and fluid-preserved), entomological specimens, and herbarium mounts, reflecting the biota of the region. Other collections include mineralogy and petrology, archives and library holdings.Contacts
