Description

The Museum of Zoology (MZUC) along with Botany, Paleontology and Mineralogy, make up the group of Natural History Museums of the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (UNC). It is located in the building of the National Academy of Sciences, declared National Historical Monument, in the Jesuit Block, Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The museum was created to collect, research, classify and preserve specimens of the Argentinean wildlife obtained from the exploration of the country, as a scientific resource for academics and as an auxiliary means in higher education of Zoology. Nowadays, the Museum performs additional diverse educational efforts at all levels, offering its facilities, exhibitions and special activities at the service of society and its full development. Its collection, constantly growing, is home to some 19,000 specimens of the main zoological groups of the planet, both Invertebrate and Vertebrate. Of those, 1180 natural objects (complete specimens, skeletons, eggs, shells, etc.) are on display permanently in their showrooms. These highlight the natural heritage of Argentina, putting emphasis on the central region of the country.

El Museo de Zoología (MZUC) integra, junto a Botánica, Paleontología y Mineralogía, el conjunto de museos de Historia Natural de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (UNC). Está situado en el edificio de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias, construcción declarada Monumento Histórico Nacional, en la Manzana Jesuítica, Patrimonio de la Humanidad. El museo fue creado con el propósito de reunir, investigar, clasificar y conservar ejemplares de la fauna argentina obtenidos de la exploración del territorio nacional, como recurso científico para el ámbito académico, y como medio auxiliar en la enseñanza superior de la Zoología. Actualmente, el Museo cumple además de aquellas tareas una diversa labor educativa en todos sus niveles, poniendo sus instalaciones, exhibiciones y actividades especiales al servicio de la sociedad y de su pleno desarrollo. Su colección, en permanente crecimiento, alberga unos 19.000 ejemplares de los principales grupos zoológicos del planeta, tanto Invertebrados como Vertebrados. De aquéllos, 1180 objetos naturales (ejemplares completos, esqueletos, huevos, caparazones, etc.) se encuentran expuestos en forma permanente en sus salas de exhibición. Estas destacan el patrimonio natural de la Argentina, poniéndose énfasis en la región central del país.
