Description

Penza State University is a modern university, developing rapidly, yet retaining its time-honored traditions. Being the most prominent university in the region, it attracts the most talented students and teaching staff. Out of 22 000 students studying at the university now, many will reach the top in their professional career, as previous generations have done during its 70 years' history. The teaching staff is experienced, knowledgeable, and supportive. Most of them have science degrees: 12% are full professors, 58% are associate professors. The Faculty of Natural Sciences is one of the oldest faculties of the university. It was founded in 1946. The Faculty allows students to get modern knowledge about nature, society and their interaction. The knowledge obtained is useful for research and teaching activity of highly qualified specialists. Field practice in the Penza Region and beyond it is an integral part of the training process. The Faculty has two museums: Zoological Museum, which includes about 2000 objects, and Mineralogical Museum, initiated by the students. The museum is proud of Sprygin herbarium which has 200,000 samples. The Faculty of Natural Sciences is rich in traditions. The students take active part in amateur performances, sports competitions, traditional winter ski tours, and faculty tourist gatherings. The faculty is proud of its graduates. Among the teachers of geography, biology and chemistry there are a lot of outstanding educators awarded by the government. Many graduates work as headmasters and head teachers of schools, in regional and city departments of education, as well as at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
