Description
The Natural park «Numto» was established in 1997 and located in the Northern part of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugr, Beloyarsk district. Its area covers 556 664 hectares. The natural complexes of the park are of high ecological, aesthetic and historical value. The territory of the park is the place of residence of two ethnic groups (Forest Nenets and Kazym Khanty) and is intended to be used for nature conservation, recreational and educational purposes. Park "Numto" is located on the Northern slope of an old moraine outlier “The Siberskie Uvaly”. The most valuable part of the park is Lake Numto, sacred for local peoples. The area of the park belongs to the northern taiga subzone of the forest zone of Western Siberia. Due to its remoteness, the area of the lake Numto remained a "blank spot" in the development of Siberia and was revealed to researchers only at the beginning of the 20th century. The first brief information about the lake was describes by A.A. Dunin-Gorkavich, who visited the lake Numto on reindeer sleds in November 1901. The landscape structure of the park area is reflected in the composition of its flora. The large area is covered by bogs with dominance of Sphagnum spp. The checklist of plants of the area lists 263 species of aboriginal and adventive higher vascular plants. The fauna is about 40 species of mammals and 156 species of birds. The park's wetlands cover an area of over 107 thousand hectares. The area is rich in nesting conditions for waterfowl. Scientific reports, documentation, maps and other publications are kept in the library of the Numto Natural Park. The biological collections of the Park are represented by the herbarium of vascular plants, lichens, mosses, entomological collections, and used for research and educational purposes. The park combines biodiversity conservation, traditional reindeer husbandry and oil production. A prerequisite for sustainable development of the area is a combination of environmentally friendly nature management in industrial development areas, nature protection and conservation.Contacts
