Description
The Entomotheque of the National Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry - Department of Plant Health belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety, has high historical and scientific value, being a source of consultation of the area of agriculture and Forest research, companies, schools and communities in Mozambique. Its main value is in aid to pest control that attack the plantations of food and forest crops, and preservation and management of insect collections initiated in the 1918. The existing collections are divided into 211 families of insects-pests occurring in the country and bring together the old entomological collections of the Agricultural and Forestry Zoology section of the Agriculture and Forestry Services (DAF) and the Institute research Centre Cotton (CICA). Existing collections have contributed effectively to the development of pest outbreak control strategies. Recently Entomotheque joined the project to mobilize primary data on biodiversity in Mozambique, led by IIAM under the IDB programme, funded by the European Union and GBIF.Contacts
