GBIF publisher since
14 September 2015

Description

The EIS foundation is the Dutch knowledge centre on insects and other invertebrates. The foundation is built on the activities of about 50 working groups, all focusing on a different group of invertebrate animals. The Bureau of the EIS foundation is located at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden and accommodates 9 staff members, facilitating and supporting the working groups to collect and publish their knowledge and data. The EIS Bureau also acts as an expertise centre for policy related invertebrate issues and works as a contracting party for miscellaneous Dutch organisations and governmental bodies. EIS is also involved in educational programmes and the training of professional and citizen science invertebrate workers. The organisation holds several (large) datasets with mainly monitoring and observational data.
