Description

<\br> The University of Magallanes, within the framework that surrounds its institutional mission, emphasizes in the study and obtaining of knowledge applied to the reality of the environment in Chilean Patagonia and Antarctica. In Research, Development and Innovation the University directs its actions in strengthening the studies and publications in the various disciplines (i.e., the humanities, social sciences, engineering and natural sciences of the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic). Among the priority lines defined, highlights Antarctic and Sub Antarctic Science. This line of research includes the study of the biodiversity of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and earth sciences in the Subantarctic ecoregion of Magallanes and the Antarctic continent, incorporating studies of management and conservation of endemic species, vulnerability to global changes and their effects in our pristine region. A crucial aspect of the knowledge of biodiversity is the curatorship and study of the own collections and, in this particular case, referred to the organisms belonging to the Magellanic and Antarctic biogeographical regions, aiming to be a witness of the characteristic biodiversity of the region. This aspect is carried out through the Pavilion of Biological Collections Edmundo Pisano.
