Description
Unesp (São Paulo State University) is one of the largest and most important Brazilian universities, with notable performance in teaching, research and community service outreach. Funded by the state government of São Paulo, it is one of the four public universities offering free education, alongside USP (University of São Paulo), Unicamp (University of Campinas), and the Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (UNIVESP). Founded in 1976, from the merging of isolated higher education institutes that existed in various regions of the state of São Paulo, Unesp has 34 units in 24 cities, with 22 in the countryside; one in the capital; and one on the coast of São Paulo, specifically in the city of São Vicente. Many of these units have their own collections and herbaria. Research in biodiversity and the environment at Unesp is of fundamental importance for several reasons; (1) Biodiversity Conservation; (2) Environmental Sustainability; (3) Human Resources Development; (4) Innovation and Technological Development; (5)Socioeconomic Impact; (6)International Collaboration; (7)Education and Awareness. These factors highlight the importance of research in biodiversity and the environment for Unesp, significantly contributing to scientific advancement, environmental preservation, and sustainable development.Contacts
