Macedonian Ecological Society

Description

The Macedonian Ecological Society (MES) is an environmental non-profit civil society organization based in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, that has a mission to promote ecology, environmental sciences, biodiversity conservation, as well as to promote ecologically justified use of natural resources. It has been established in 1972, and currently is the largest environmental CSO in the Republic of Macedonia, in terms of number of employees (project office opened in 2006), members, volunteers and collaborators/affiliates from the universities and scientific institutions from Macedonia and other Balkan countries. Biodiversity informatics is an integral part of MES's work, and the GIS and databases Program is responsible for every aspect of it. There is very little doubt that MES has the largest collection of biodiversity data in the Republic of Macedonia. MES shares GBIF's mission as improved decision making is one of the organization's priorities.
