Description
The Zoological Museum of Sapienza University of Rome (MZUR) is one of the most ancient Roman scientific museums. It hosts around 1 million specimens (both dry- and ethanol-preserved), ranging from Vertebrates to Invertebrates, coming from all the Biogeographical Regions. The collections are currently housed in three locations: the Museo Civico di Zoologia in Rome as well as the zoological and entomological sections of the Department of Biology and Biotechnology “Charles Darwin” of Sapienza University of Rome. A great diversity of vertebrate specimens is available, mainly birds, reptiles and mammals, not to mention the around 350000 arthropod specimens; the biggest and more relevant invertebrate collections are the Orthoptera, Coleoptera and Lepidoptera ones, including specimens mostly collected in the west-Palaearctic and Afrotropical regions. MZUR now works as a scientific base for international researchers dealing with different scientific problems, from global change ecology and pollination networks to insect systematics and taxonomy.Contacts
