Description
The Haus der Natur is a natural history museum in the city of Salzburg. It houses a large exhibition (approx.. 7.000m²) about all aspects of nature, a Science Center, an aquarium and a reptile zoo. Its predecessor the "Ornithological Institute, Salzburg" was founded in 1913 with the main aim to organize an Austrian bird-ringing scheme. In 1924 the Ornithological Institute was transferred into a universal natural history museum. Since its foundation the museum is organised as a private non-profit association. With our exhibitions we attempt to inspire our visitors, to stimulate their interest in the natural world and to enhance their understanding for natural processes. As a nature competence centre the Haus der Natur plays an important role in the scientific exploration and documentation of nature in Salzburg.Contacts
