Description

The main mission of the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP - https://mhnc.up.pt/) is the production and dissemination of knowledge about evolution, diversity and the confluence between the natural and the cultural worlds. The MHNC-UP is committed to preserve, promote, study and raise awareness about a broad heritage linked to the natural, exact and human sciences, having its foundations in the education and research carried out by the University of Porto for more than two centuries. The MHNC-UP’s structure includes its headquarters, located in the historical building of the Rectory of the University of Porto, and a second facility, which comprises the Hall of Biodiversity – Ciência Viva Center and Porto’s Botanical Garden. The headquarters of the museum harbours its rich scientific collections, which encompass geology, palaeontology, zoology, archaeology and ethnography, botany (including the Herbarium of the University of Porto - PO) and scientific instruments.
