Institute of Marine Biology of the NAS of Ukraine organizes, implements and coordinates scientific research in the fields of biology and nature sciences, aimed at gaining new scientific knowledge on the biology and ecology of shelf and coastal reservoirs (deltas, liman, estuaries, river mouths, lagoons) and their usage on the practical purpose (protection and reproduction of natural resources, rational nature conservation, conservation and protection of marine and freshwater environments, promoting scientific and technological progress, socio-economic and spiritual society development) in accordance with the following main scientific directions of the Institute's activity: Fundamental bases structural and functional organization of marine ecosystems, estuaries, river’s mouth territories under climate change and anthropogenic load; Development of scientific principles of marine ecosystems monitoring, management of the marine environment quality and ecological management; Biodiversity and assessment of bioresource potential of the Azov-Black Sea basin; justification of methodological aspects of Ukrainian marine eco-network formation.
