O Museu de História Natural, é uma instituição tutelada pela Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, que a nível nacional constitui uma das instituições de investigação e divulgação da biodiversidade faunística. É o mais antigo museu de Moçambique e único do seu género, tendo sido criado em 1913, possui uma colecção que se singulariza pela sua riqueza, diversidade e combinação entre a parte natural e a etnográfica. A colecção entomológica do Museu de História Natural, é a principal e a maior e mais antiga colecção de insectos em Moçambique, contendo exemplares de quase todas as ordens que ocorrem no país. O Museu de História Natural faz parte do projecto "African Insect Atlas: unleashing the potential of insects in conservation and sustainability research in Africa" liderado pelo BID financiado pela União Europeia, com o objectivo de aumentar a quantidade de informação sobre a diversidade de insectos disponível para uso em pesquisas científicas. Para tal, os dados da colecção entomológica serão publicados na plataforma GBIF The Museum of Natural History is part of Eduardo Mondlane University, and is one of the institutions for research and dissemination of wildlife biodiversity at a National level. It is the oldest museum in Mozambique and the only one of its kind in the country. It was created in 1913 and has a collection that stands out for its richness, diversity and combination of a Natural History collection and Ethnographic collection. The Entomological collection of the Museum of Natural History is the largest and oldest collection of insects in Mozambique, containing specimens of almost all orders that occur in the country. The Natural History Museum is part of the European Union-funded project "African Insect Atlas: unleashing the potential of insects in conservation and sustainability research in Africa" with the aim of increasing the amount of information on the diversity of insects available for use in scientific research. To do this, the data from the Entomological collection will be published on the GBIF platform.
