Natural park «Kondinskie lakes» named after L.F. Stashkevich

Description

The Natural park «Kondinskie lakes» named after L.F. Stashkevich was established in 1998 for sustainable management and research of rare ecosystems of the three unique lakes (Arantur, Pontur, Rangetur) and nearby areas with their historical and archeological sites. An active oil field is working within the parks’ borders, introducing clean technologies into sustainable subsoil management. The area of the «Kondinskie lakes» is actively used by people for recreation and mushrooms and berries picking. The history of protection of this area goes back to 1929 and the State Nature Reserve «Kondo-Sosvinskiy» which was later closed and several new protected areas were opened instead in its borders. The Natural park has several departments, including those dedicated to research, education and protection of the area. The scientific department employs several permanent researchers and provides support for the field work on temporal basis. The park maintains a program of ecological monitoring to minimize influence of the oil field on nearby ecosystems (http://kondozera.ugraoopt.ru/nauchno-isledovatelskie-raboty-cond/rezultaty-nir). This also includes inventories of flora and fauna, vegetation, bird and animal counts, productivity of berries, phenological observations and restoration of disturbed areas. During the history of research in the park, about 200 scientific papers, monographs and theses was published totally (http://kondozera.ugraoopt.ru/publikatsii-cond). The reports of research projects, documentation, maps and published papers are stored in the park’s library. There are several electronic databases for management of biodiversity data, geochemical monitoring and phenological observations data. The raw data of some of monitoring programs are also stored in consistent forms or excel spreadsheets. The biological collections of the park include herbarium of vascular plants, lichens, mosses and fungi, entomological collection, which are used for research and education purposes. A significant part of collections made during inventories in the area, are stored in the collections of the other institutions in Ekaterinburg, Khanty-Mansiysk and other scientific centers (Bespalova T.L. et al., 2015, The review of scientific funds of the Natural park «Kondinskie Lakes».
