Description
The Federal University of Ceará (UFC) is an autarchy linked to Ministry of Education. It was created by law nº 2.373 on 16 December of 1954, and installed on June 25 of the following year. The mission of the Federal University of Ceará is to train professionals of the highest qualification, generate and disseminate knowledge, preserve and disclose the ethical, scientific, artistic and cultural values, consisting in a strategic institution for the development of Ceará, in the Northeast and Brazil. The main campus is located in the city of Fortaleza, capital of Ceará State. Beyond the three campuses in Fortaleza (Benfica, Pici and Porangabuçu), the Institution is present within the state (Cariri, Sobral and Quixadá), acting in socio-economic development of these regions and contributing to the improving people's quality of life. , Actually, the UFC offers 119 undergraduate courses (110 classroom and nine distance courses) and 94 postgraduate, 41 academic masters, seven professional master's and 36 doctorate degrees. The Herbarium Prisco Bezerra (EAC) is linked to the Biology Department of UFC. Currently, the EAC Herbarium's collection is represented for about 54,000 herbarium specimens, including 99 typus collections. The collection is predominantly spermatophytes, with most representatives of samples of the Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Rubiaceae, Asteraceae and Malvaceae families.Contacts
