The Sociedade Galega de Historia Natural (SGHN) is a non profit institution founded in 1973 with three targets to work: investigation, divulgation and enviromental protection. Investigation SGHN introduced the first atlas of vertebrates of Galicia in 1995, continued with the first review of Herpetology, published in 2011. In 2015 published the first atlas of insects on the Lucanidae (Coleoptera) and Carabini and Cychrini subfamilies (Carabidae, Coleoptera). Currently it carries several lines of research on Papilionioidea (Lepidoptera), Odonata, vegetables invasive alien species, Ziphiidae (Cetacea), etc. Divulgation Apart from the publication of various atlas, SGHN also publishes the informative magazine "Paspallás", born in 1982 and the research journal "Braña" which began its journey in 1977. Other lines of divulgation, apart from various activities in the museum, are the itinerant exhibitions about various environmental issues, conferences and astronomical workshops. Museum SGHN manages the “Museo de Historia Natural” in the town of Ferrol (A Coruña) focused on the natural history of Galicia and helds an important collection of marine vertebrates and especially preserves several holotypes and paratypes of recently described beaked whales.Contacts
