Yuganskiy State Nature Reserve

Description

The State Nature Reserve «Yuganskiy» was established in 1982 with the aim of protection of ecosystems in the middle taiga zone of Western Siberia, research and development of conservation initiatives. The area of the reserve encompasses about 650 thousand hectares of strictly protected core area and 94 thousand hectares of security belt surrounding its borders. The biodiversity studies were conducted in the reserve since 1984, the main areas of research being ornithology, teriology, phenology, botany, mycology and entomology. Other groups of organisms had been studied on temporal basis. The monitoring program «Chronicles of Nature» had been conducted continuously since 1985 and the Red List species are the target of special monitoring program of their populations status. The total list of publications, most including species records, make up to 300 works, see total list of publications on the website. The reserve holds several biological collections, including about 9000 specimens of macrozoobenthos (Babushkin, 2018), collections of Lepidoptera (Strelnikova, 2018), about 650 specimens of vascular plants (Zvyagina, 2018). Only part of the collections is digitized and available online, the others are stored on local computers and awaiting of digitization. Literature: 1) Strelnikova O.G.
