Centre de Surveillance de la Biodiversité de l'Université de Kisangani

GBIF publisher since
2 July 2018

Description

The Centre de Surveillance de la Biodiversité (CSB/UNIKIS) is a biodiversity research centre created in 2011. Furthermore, the CSB organized the first international conference on biodiversity in the Congo Basin in 2014"1st Interational Conference on Biodiversity in the Congo Basin, june 6-10, 2014 (Kisangani, DRC)" with the Consortium ( MRAC, IRSnB, Meise Botanical Garden and Kisangani University). There were 4 main themes: climate change and biodiversity, the inventory of biodiversity and ecology in the Congo Basin, biodiversity and sustainable development and conservation. This conference brought together several national and international scientists of several nationalities. Indeed, the CSB has also organized several field research missions (zoological, botanical and microbiological) throughout the country.
GBIF will enable the CSB, which has sufficient but silent data, to be shared with the scientific communities. The management of data information is therefore of paramount importance to the CSB. The CSB is also working with several organizations working on biodiversity, including: WWF in the framework of the PARAP project: to make an inventory of protected areas in the DR Congo in order to strengthen the conservation of animal and plant species; to enhance priority areas by classifying and reclassifying them according to key or flagship species; The LUKURU Foundation for field missions in TL2 (Lomami Park), the MBISA project, financed by the Belgian Development Cooperation through the MRAC Framework Agreement; Collaboration with FAO in the framework of the IFN (National Forest Inventory) project; Collaboration with the Faculty of Science of UNIKIS within the'biodiversity' component of the VLIR-CUI project: strengthening research capacities COBAFISH : monitoring of the physico-chemical parameters of the Congo River and the Tshopo River as well as rainfall sampling in Kisangani; Collaboration with CEBioS (IRSnB) in the implementation of the CHM (Clearing House Mechanism) system in DR Congo; Etc.
