Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation

GBIF publisher since
21 September 2016

Description

The Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation was founded in 1998. It began with documenting whales and dolphins species and behavior then to further its scope as “Caring for the environment, ecology and culture of Taiwan’s ocean.” The foundation seeks to promote the public awareness of ocean preservation with persistence like the Kuroshio Current. Kuroshio has also documented thousands of Cetaceans sightings along the northern coast of Hualien. “A Day Of Spinner Dolphins” research was conducted and a documentary film, “Circle’s of the Dolphins” was released in 2010. In the same year, the foundation conducted a PHOTO ID research project to identify the individuals of the Risso’s Dolphins. Over 250 individuals had been successfully identified and the data of their migration, social structure, and age recognition were provided for scientific academia. Since 2011, the underwater cetacean voice recording along the northern coast of Hualien was conducted and provided to the wildlife sound database of the Forestry Bureau of Taiwan.
