Xeno-canto Foundation for Nature Sounds

GBIF publisher since
6 September 2018

Description

The Xeno-canto Foundation for Nature Sounds ("Xeno-canto", "XC") aims to popularise wildlife sound recording worldwide, to improve accessibility of wildlife sounds, and to increase knowledge of wildlife sounds. The foundation is based in The Netherlands. It was founded in 2008 and is officially known by its Dutch name "Stichting Xeno-canto voor Natuurgeluiden". The foundation’s main channel is www.xeno-canto.org, an online archive that provides access to shared sound recordings of wild animals from around the world. The recordings are shared by a growing worldwide community of thousands of sound recordists of all levels. The aim of Xeno-canto is to have representation of all wildlife sounds, meaning the sounds of all sound producing taxa, of their complete repertoire, of the complete geographic variability and at all stages of development.
