Description

The Museo Nacional de Historia Natural “Prof. Eugenio de Jesús Marcano” is an institution of the Dominican State oriented to the study and conservation of the natural heritage of Hispaniola and the Caribbean region, as well as to education and scientific dissemination. Located in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, César Nicolás Penson street, Santo Domingo, it was built in 1974 and opened its doors to the public in 1982. It is an autonomous institution with legal and budgetary status, attached to the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales through the General Law on the Environment and Natural Resources (Law 64-00). Our reference collection houses about 120,000 specimens and 500 types from various zoological groups: birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, arthropods, marine invertebrates, and others, as well as vertebrate fossils. These groups of collections are distributed in three deposits.
