This project increases availability of data on the diversity of bee species in Cameroon and contributes to the environmental protection and sustainable development of the Cameroonian’s beekeeping sector. Data are mobilized in collaboration with universities and museums in Cameroon, Belgium and USA.
The project targets the publication of datasets and a data paper on Cameroon’s Apoidea, and the establishment of a national data mobilization unit. A workshop on data analysis, the development of a beekeeping sector profile for Cameroon and the organization of a national conference on Apoidea diversity and conservation will ensure the application of these data in response to national priorities for conservation and sustainable development.
Project Progress
The project team mobilized data on bee species in various universities in Cameroon.
Specimens were identified at the species or genus level during an internship of the project lead in the Department of Entomology of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels, Belgium. Digitization of mobilized data started at the same time.
A capacity enhancement workshop on data collection and digitization was organized at the University of Ngaoundere in Cameroon for research students and young scientists in Botany and Insect Science.
