The GBIF Secretariat is seeking a skilled web developer who is based in Denmark and has expertise in Node.js, React and GraphQL. As part of our team, reporting to the GBIF Head of Informatics, you will contribute to the development of a new interface for GBIF.org, a platform that serves several million users each year and delivers billions of data records in downloads every day.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a unified GraphQL API that spans multiple backend REST APIs, ensuring a seamless interface for the web layer
  • Assist in building and expanding the React component library
  • Migrate and enhance existing pages from AngularJS
  • Implement and refine the visual design, focusing on CSS
  • Contribute to server-side rendering for improved SEO
  • Optimize page-loading performance
  • Develop a reusable login solution that works across various products

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Node.js, React, and AngularJS, with the ability to showcase previous applications you have developed
  • Familiarity with Git and comfortable working with GitHub for version control
  • Experience collaborating in a cross-disciplinary environment, working alongside designers and other developers to prototype and validate early concepts

Contract and remuneration

This short-term contract is for a 12-month duration, starting from September/October 2023, with a salary of 47,973 DKK per month, and GBIF salaries are exempt from Danish income tax, under the GBIF host agreement with Denmark. The successful candidate will be locally recruited, and applicants are therefore expected to have a valid work and residence permit for Denmark.
