Community consultation on the role of biodiversity data in the post-2020 GBF

Online discussion convened by the alliance for biodiversity knowledge aims to improve quality and understanding of primary evidence base for global and national biodiversity indicators

With the help of key partners across the science-policy interface, the alliance for biodiversity knowledge is organizing a community consultation ahead of the Fifteenth Convention of the Parties (COP15) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This consultation seeks to enlist and engage those involved in developing global and national indicators under the CBD’s Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs).

A white paper, Primary biodiversity data and the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, will provide the starting point for a moderated two-week discussion about the dependence of previous and future indicator frameworks on primary biodiversity data.

This agenda for the webinar will form the basis of a two-week moderated consultation addressing the themes of:

Participants in the discussion will explore how to improve workflows around the primary biodiversity data on which indicators and EBVs rely and highlight the key role of biodiversity observation networks and information facilities in achieving the goals of the GBF.
