The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum (PSUNHM), in collaboration with the Bee Research Unit of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, will be holding the “Workshop on Biology and Taxonomy of Thai Wild Bees” from July 16–19, 2025, at the Halabala Wildlife Research Station, Narathiwat Province, Thailand. (registration will be available from May 1 to Jun 31, 2025). All of the course materials will be in Thai.

With over 20,000 species of wild bees globally and more than 240 species officially recorded in Thailand, these wild bees play a crucial role in forest ecosystems as pollinators.

This workshop highlights the diversity of wild bees in Thailand, not only for economically important honeybees and stingless bees. The lecturer and experts will be led by researchers from Chulalongkorn University under the IUCN SSC Wild Bee Specialist Group – Asia, whose are supported by GBIF’s BIFA5_005 project on “Database and digitization of bees in Thailand”. The program is designed specifically for local people to understand more about bee biodiversity, biodiversity data and thus increase awareness and conservation mind, this is supported BIFA5_005 project. Particularly, this workshop covers bee biology, taxonomy (down to genus or species level), fieldwork techniques, specimen handling, and the application of bee diversity in pollination ecology research.
