As part of the programme for the BID project, "Digitizing national vegetable databases to improve food and nutritional security in Eastern Africa", this five day training workshop was facilitated to increase the availability of national biodiversity data through GBIF.org.
The workshop covered the main principles of data management: data cleaning, digitizing, editing and publishing. Hosted at the World Vegetable Centre in Arusha, Tanzania, this event was attended by 16 participants from organisations involved with publishing data in Eastern Africa including the National Plant Genetic Resources Center (NPGRC), the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Tanzania; ISABU and the Southern Plant Genetic Resources Center (SPGRC-SADC). Comprising of presentations introducing key procedures and tools for data mobilization and practical exercises, participants were provided with skills enabling them to share and make visible their data.
