GBIF Strategic Plan 2003-2006
DownloadGBIF’s Strategic Plan for the period 2003-2006. It was endorsed at the 7th meeting of the GBIF Governing Board in Tsukuba, Japan in October 2003.
Abstract
The GBIF vision as stated in this strategic plan: “GBIF will do for biodiversity information what the printing press did for the sharing of recorded information during the Renaissance — it will make recorded knowledge the common property of everyone, not just the elect few. Even better, GBIF will do it electronically, so the resource will be dynamic, interactive, and ever-evolving. Within five years, we expect that GBIF’s portal will be the most-used gateway to biodiversity and other biological data on the Internet”. Its mission, was stated as to “make the world’s biodiversity data freely and universally available via the Internet”.
