Description

The present data was collected during a day field trip to Mongolwe and Chikala Hills Forest Reserves in Machinga on 12 August 2005 by I.H. Patel, P.H. Nansomgole and A.K. Manana. This area is located North East of Mongolwe Hill slopes, along Likwenu River which marks the boundary between Mpango Village and T.A. Stola area.

Purpose

The purpose of this investigation was to document species and GPS coordinates for this area to be used in digitization exercise of the area

Sampling Description

Study Extent

This study took place in Southern Region of Malawi specifically in Machinga district between Mongolwe and Chikala Forest Reserve in Machinga

Sampling

A 25m was laid to measure the size of a quadrat of 10x10m. Elevation and cordinates were recorded at the center of each quadrat in order to have average readings for the entire quadrat. The same string was used to measure a distance of 100m between quadrats(interval). Species observations were made in 6 quadrats.

Quality Control

none

Method steps

  1. Repeatability can be done by tracing quadrat 1 with a hand held GPS and trace the remainder of the quadrats using track point while maintaining a 100m distance between quadrats

Taxonomic Coverages

The list consists of members of the phylum Tracheophyta belonging to two classes Liliopsida and Magnoliopsida. All mebers of the two classes were further identified to Order, Family, Genus and then to species level.
  1. Liliopsida
    rank: class
  2. Magnoliopsida
    rank: class

Geographic Coverages

This day trip was done in Machinga District in southern region, Malawi
