Method steps

1. Direct observation, Field notes, Photography. Equipment used are Mobile Camera and Digital Camera (Nikon Coolpix P900, P600, B600). The samples were observed during removal of water hyacinth from the jheel. Observed data were recorded in the field notebook.

This dataset specifically includes all the Plant species recorded in a span of one year (2021-2022) in and around Santragachi Jheel. All the species were identified up to the species or genus level. A total of 89 species of plants were recorded belonging to 41 families and 22 orders.

West Bengal comprises many large and small water bodies which are bestowed with diverse aquatic flora and fauna. Santragachi jheel is one such water body covering an area of about 12.75 hectares which has gained its popularity as a visiting place for many migratory birds from trans himalayan, and some local migrants during winter. The length of the jheel is about 915 m. and width 305 m, depth varies from 4 to 7 ft. This Jheel is surrounded on all sides by human habitation including railway quarters, shops, railway yard, industrial units, domestic and commercial cattle shed.The main aquatic vegetation of the lake is the Water Hyacinth(Eichhornia crassipes).
