Dataset with records of sightings of mammal and bird species made during the period of the survey.Purpose
The survey was carried out to establish the current and historical status, and estimate population sizes, and to formulate recommendations for the species monitoring.

Quality Control
Surveys carried out by Quercus contractors and NPWS staff. Quality control and training was an important part of the survey methodology. Data is of a high quality.Method steps
- Full details of the data capture methodology is available in NPWS IWM No. 30. Night counts were made from set points along 1km transects, in 691 1km squares across Ireland. Incidental records made by surveyors during the period of the survey also captured.
