The dataset contains records of Vacular Flora collected in the river Tua and included in the Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) and in the Complementary Measures Programs (PMC, Complementary Measure MC12I) of the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam (AHFT) promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A, subsequently (2021) transferred to Movhera Hidroelétricas do Norte, S.A. Data were collected in July 2021 during field visits to 24 fixed stations (12 intervened and 12 controls). A total of 193 species or iinfra-specific categories were recorded.Purpose
This dataset is part of a broader initiative whereby the company Movhera- Hidroelétricas do Norte S.A. will make available biodiversity data collected during impact assessment and biological monitoring studies.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), 52km above the reservoir, in the municipalities of Vila Flor and MirandelaSampling
Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 100 m2 sampling plots, with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. However, only the percentage cover was used in this dataset. The Compensatory Measure MC12i was divided in three sub-measures: MC12i.1 (Removal of the invasive species Arundo donax), MC12i.2 (Consolidation of the riparian gallery) and MC12i.3 (Consolidation of the margins using ecological engineering methods). Each intervened point was attributed to one of the three sub-measures: MC12i.1 (denoted in the data as CVR1_i2 and CVR_i2), MC12i.2 (CVR2_i1 to i8) and NC12i,3 (CVR3_i1 – rockfill technique – and CVR3_i2 - braided with living branches). To each intervened point was attributed a “control” nearby, where no actions were taken.Quality Control
