Data from vegetation plots at Atiquipa, Southern Peru

Description

This dataset corresponds to monthly monitoring of vegetation plots at two sites within the Atiquipa “lomas”. One of the sites, Barrera, has soil recently removed, around 5 years before the monitoring started. The other site, Lagunillas, has naturally developed soil.

Purpose

The purpose of publishing this data set is to complement the scarce information available on lomas vegetation.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The study was conducted in two lomas, separated from each about 2 km, both within the Atiquipa Lomas. Sampling was conducted monthly, at the beginning of each month.

Sampling

The study was conducted in two lomas, with 50 quadrats in each one. Each month during the study period, each quadrat was surveyed to count the number of plants and species occuring. Taxonomic determination was conducted at Herbarium Arequipense (HUSA) at Universidad Nacional de San Agustin, in Arequipa, Peru.

Quality Control

Data was checked when being entered into a spreedsheet, and at the end of the study period again, against the original field notes.

Method steps

  1. Data was recorded in semi-permament quadrats, i.e. that the same quadrat was visitwed month after month to record their vegetation.

Taxonomic Coverages

Geographic Coverages

The data was collected at the Atiquipa “lomas”, in the District of Atiquipa, Caraveli Province, and Arequipa Region.
