Pal S, Joshi P (2023). catalogue of sea snakes in BNHS. Version 1.6. Bombay Natural History Society. Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/hkubvh accessed via GBIF.org on 2025-03-26.Description
The BNHS museum houses a vast collection of specimens collected from across the Indian subcontinent over the past hundred years. The dataset provides 235 occurrence records based on specimens of sea snakes from India, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran. The dataset holds records of 30 species belonging to 10 genera and three families. The distribution and natural history of sea snakes remain fairly unknown due to their occurrence in marine habitats and most of the observations are accidental records from fishing and as bycatch. Museum information on occurrence as well as collection localities will help in understanding the distribution of these snakes.Sampling Description
