Study Extent

Liwonde National Park is located in Machinga district along the Shire River north of Liwonde township. The park area is approximately 250 square miles. The park's western boundary incorporates 15 miles of the Shire River from the Likwenu River inlet and railway north to the base of Lake Malombe, then north east to the Mangochi Forest Reserve.
