Isle of Wight Local Records Centre (2022). Isle of Wight non-native invasive species. Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/laa1k8 accessed via GBIF.org on 2024-12-15.Description
Records of non-native invasive species as defined by an Environment Agency list in relation to a Memorandum of Agreement with IWLRC.
Purpose
Many of the records were collected by amateur naturalists and local recording groups and hence the purpose of data capture will vary from one record to the next. Others were collected by professional ecologists to inform applications for development, or the monitoring of wildlife sites.
Sampling Description
Quality Control
Most of the species are easily identifiable and records are validated by local experts. A significant proportion of the records originate from professional surveys. The dataset has been checked using the NBN Record Cleaner.Method steps
- Many of the records were collected by amateur naturalists and local experts through local recording groups and so the methods of data capture will vary from one record to the next. Others have come from reports made by the general public, generally relating to easily recognisable species. The remainder were collected by professional ecologists as part of survey work related to planning applications.
Taxonomic Coverages
Geographic Coverages
The dataset covers the Isle of Wight. The records are largely ad-hoc and coverage is incomplete. The records in this dataset were provided with four or six figure grid-references but some of these grid references refer the approximate central location of sites and hence may not represent the actual location of the species occurrence.
