Checklist of Odonata from the Caribbean region of Colombia

Study Extent

This resource presents the list of damselflies and dragonflies species (Insecta: Odonata) with distribution in the Caribbean of Colombia.

Sampling

The information on damselflies and dragonflies (Insecta: Odonata) was compiled from the review of the odonatological collections of the Universidad del Atlántico and the Universidad de los Andes.

Method steps

1. Each researcher visited entomological collections in Barranquilla and Bogotá. It was identified the samples of Odonata from the Caribbean of Colombia. All available occurrence data was written in a Darwin Core format. When necessary, the researcher identified or confirmed the species. From the occurrence data, it was elaborated the checklist of species. The data was sent for quality control. All critical errors were fixed, all non-critical errors were discussed and incorporated when necessary. The data was published and available to posterior modifications.

This resource presents the list of damselflies and dragonflies species (Insecta: Odonata) with distribution in the Caribbean of Colombia present in the odonatological collections of the Universidad del Atlántico and the Universidad de los Andes. We listed the two suborders of Odonata, eight families, 39 genera and 58 species.

We register the departments of Archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina, Atlántico, La Guajira, Magdalena and Sucre.
