Description

The dataset contains the results of the annual monitoring of the relative abundance of small mammals, which was carried out by zoologists of the Kharkiv Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in the period from 2000 to 2018. The fauna of micromammals was investigated in the vicinity of 117 settlements of the Kharkiv region. The capture of mammals was carried out in different types of oak forests, dry and floodplain meadows, riparian-aquatic vegetation, steppe areas, forest belts, gardens, fields and haystacks. During the study period, 14930 specimens of small mammals were caught, which belong to 16 species of mouse-like rodents and 4 species of shrews.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

Kharkiv region, NE Ukraine

Sampling

Dataset was created on the basis of the results of the annual monitoring of the relative abundance of small mammals, which was carried out by zoologists of the Kharkiv Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in the period from 2000 to 2018. The capture of small mammals was carried out by the method of trap-lines. Gero traps with a standard bait (a crust of bread and sunflower oil) were used for catching. The traps were placed at a distance of 5 m from each other in a line.

Method steps

  1. Capture of small mammals using the trap line method.
  2. Handling of captured samples.
  3. Making entries in the field diary.
  4. Drawing up a spreadsheet.
