9 species of Odonata were recorded on the site, 4 with confirmed breeding. Note that duplicates of some or all records may be held by other data providers such as British Dragonfly Society & Highland Biological Recording Group.
Purpose
The aim of the survey was: To monitor and provide field data required by SNH to report on the condition of the dragonfly assemblage feature at Loch aí Mhuilinn SSSI. Odonata are one of three notified features on the site.
Sampling Description
Method steps
- Work was concentrated around the shoreline of the loch, much of which is difficult to access in parts due to a close cover of Betula/Corylus woodland right down to the waters edge. Two shallow bays on the northern side and a bay in the east where a burn enters the loch were chosen as sampling sites. In addition, a brief inspection was made of the Cladium bog at NC16583941. For this report, Loch aí Mhuilinn has been given the three letter code LAM and each sampling point an individual number prefixed by this code.
