Dataset homepage

Description

The dataset is a collection of the species of Liverworts and Hornworts occurring in Denmark. The earliest recorded specimens are those collected in the 1860's by Thomas Jensen (Ranum). This material was the foundation of his Flora in the first volume of the Danish Botanical Journal, published in 1866. In 1915, Christian E. O. Jensen (Hvalsø) published the first volume of Liverworts and Sphagnum, based on extensive collecting efforts, especially in Jutland. C. Jensen's collections represent a significant part of the registered specimens. After WW2, collecting has mainly been carried out by members of the Bryological Society. This dataset also includes specimens collected by, among others: Eva Clausen and Kell Damsholt. The nomenclature is according to the Nordic Liverworts- and Hornworts flora, K. Damsholt (2002): Illustrated Flora of Nordic Liverworts and Hornworts. North. Bryol. Soc., Lund. The specimens are stored at the Botanical Museum, Natural History Museum of Denmark. The database also includes a limited number of observations. New specimens are added currently and this dataset is due for an update.
