This dataset contains records of capercaillie hens and their broods. Historically, RSPB and NatureScot agreed a list of woodlands to be surveyed each year. These surveys take place in August using pointing dogs to locate hens with broods in order to monitor productivity. The dataset also contains data on broodless hens and males found during these systematic brood counts. Brood data can also be found in the Capercaillie Casual Counts dataset. RSPB discontinued Capercaillie brood count monitoring on reserve in 2019.Purpose
