Description

Monitoring of amphibians at Brownsberg Nature Park started in 2006 and continues till present. The monitoring is focused on the impact of human activities, i.e. eco-tourism and climate change on amphibians. Most records concern sightings and calls. A few interesting specimens were collected and compose this dataset. People involved in the monitoring were/are Paul Ouboter, Gaitrie Satnarain, Vanessa Kadosoe and Rawien Jairam.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The Brownsberg Nature Park was sampled 10 times, usually in the rainy and dry season.

Sampling

Most records concern sightings and calls. A few interesting specimens were collected and compose this dataset.

Quality Control

The data was identified with the use of field guides and or amphibian call libraries.

Method steps

  1. 1. The amphibians were collected using line transects during night and day surveys. Reptiles were collected by hand when encountered. 2. The specimens were labeled in the field and after identification a collection number was assigned to each specimen. 3. The specimens were first preserved in formaldehyde and then transferred into 70% Ethanol. 4. All specimens were identified to species using literature and keys.

Taxonomic Coverages

All specimens from this expedition were identified either to family, genus or species level.
