Rangeland vegetation of Olangchung Gola, Eastern Himalaya, Nepal

Study Extent

Vegetation survey was carried out in four different altitudes of the rangeland of Olangchung Gola, Nepal.

Sampling

A vegetation survey was conducted to record the plant species diversity in the pastureland at four different altitudes (3750, 4000, 4250 and 4500 masl) of the study site using quadratic measurements. At each altitude, transects were laid consisting 15 plots (size 1 m x 1 m), and all the plant species under 1 m were noted.

Method steps

1. A vegetation survey was conducted to record the plant species diversity in the pastureland in four different altitudes of the study site using belt transect method. It included two alpine grassland Rolep (4500 masl) and Flauma (4250 masl), one near tree-line at Singjema Khola of Deuma (4000 masl) and one below the tree-line at Dhingasamba (3750 masl). The sites of survey were located en-route to Tiptala border from Gola along the Tamor river valley. In each altitude, there were three belt transects at the difference of 20 m and had five quadrates (size 1m x 1 m) in each. Thus, there were 15 quadrate plots in each altitude. Altogether 60 quadrates in four different altitudes were plotted and the coverage and height of each species were noted in each quadrates.
