Description

The dataset contains species occurrence for fishes from the Rivers of Lake Victoria Basin.

Purpose

The dataset was created as a contribution towards fish species occurrences records for the Rivers of Lake Victoria Basin Biodiversity Information System portal.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The study extent is the Rivers of Lake Victoria Basin in Kenya sampled at different time periods and at different localities.

Sampling

The study included an assessment of NMK Ichthyology collection and literature material on work done on the fishes of the Rivers of Lake Victoria Basin. It also included field expeditions to collect and observe specimens, whose information is captured here.

Quality Control

The information has been checked by various ichthyologists for accuracy to ensure correct species spellings and updated names. The process of updating the information will be continuous.

Method steps

This will include a continuous update from the Ichthyology section collection, field expeditions to collect new information and continuous updates of new research from other scientists working on fishes of the Rivers of Lake Victoria Basin.
